1989 Guasti Clemente Barolo Riserva

SKU #1144512

You don't come across this kind of quantity for aged Barolo and never at this price point. When I was first approached about this wine I didn't have a lot of hope that it was really going to pan out, I just couldn't believe it. Guasti is a producer in Nizza Monferrato but they own vineyards in Barolo and Serralunga ,for some reason (I haven't been able to figure out exactly why) they decided to age this wine, only when the importer stumbled across it in the cellar asking what's this did he gasp, and buy! That's just what you should do, 1989 was a fabulous vintage in Barolo, full, ripe and complex and this wine is great, aged perfectly now but still has another 10-20 years on it. Risotto with Porcini, or Brasato al Barolo cook some of that up and buy some of this, a really wonderful wine to drink! (Greg St.Clair, K&L Italian Wine Buyer)

This is an absolute treat. Drinking fully mature Barolo usually takes an incredible amount of patience (not to mention bank roll). Here we're lucky to see exactly what 20+ years in the bottle does to a well made nebbiolo. It's definitely a drink now type of wine, but it's still singing. The tannins have totally softened down to the finest possible point, the fruit is brambly and earthy, but still in the picture, soft and seemless acidity. Designed for lovers of well aged wine, but approachable even for the total novice. A totally fascinating drink for an incredible price!

Roasted chestnuts, figs, buttered brown sugar, warm cherry pie and a long, detailed finish of leather, earth, mineral and very fine and polished tannin. WOW. This perfectly preserved bottle from a great vintage is drinking fantastically and priced for the masses. This has the mature flavors that come with decades of age but the freshness of perfect storage. Don't miss this bargain which would be at least $200.00 on any restaurant list. If you ever wanted to try great mature Barolo but were put off by the price this is your dream ticket.

I love this wine and it is a very rare thing to find a 1989 vintage from Piedmonte and at such a user friendly price. This is rockin Nebbiolo! of great quality. Beautifully balance; the wine is medium bodied, but has richness and extraordinary aromatics (dry rose petals), with a seemingly unending finish. On the palate you will find tobacco, leather, raspberries with touches of anise and walnuts. This wine will drink well over the next five years or so, but you will want to drink this now and over the Holiday’s with friends and family. Buy plenty for gifts and stash a few for yourself.

1989 was a great vintage in the Langhe Hills and Guasti's 1989 Barolo Riserva is awesome! These guys are old school and I mean that this wine has just been sitting at the winery ever since it was made..., never been reviewed, just waiting for a day for someone to ask to buy it...Old School! 1989 was a ripe year and this wine shows the richness of that vintage with a luscious mouth feel that coats the tannins with a smooth, supple satiny finish. In the nose the wine is classic, earth, rose, truffle, smoke, wild cherries and seems an endless array of aromatics. Superb finish where it all comes together and at a ridiculously low price for aged Barolo!
Drink from 2013 to 2025
