 An elegant, pure and airy nose combines notes of citrus peel, soft yeast and plenty of green apple, pear and petrol scents. There is excellent intensity to the crisp, intense and focused flavors that terminate in a very dry and linear finish. As is almost always the case with Vilmart wines, the supporting effervescence is quite fine and overall, this could be enjoyed young or easily held for another 5 to 7 years depending on your preferences.  Vilmart’s NV Cuvée Grand Cellier bristles with all the energy that makes the Vilmart Champagnes so compelling. Crushed rocks, lemon peel, white flowers, mint and dried flowers are all crystalline and finely cut. Medium in body, fresh and pulsating in its feel, the Grand Cellier is another winner from Vilmart. This release is based on 2014, with 50% reserve wines from 2013 and 2012. Disgorged September 2016. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. (AG)  (7/2018)

 The NV Grand Cellier Premier Cru Brut offers a very clear and precise bouquet with citrus and some smoky/flinty flavors. Pure, clear and fresh on the palate, very precise and mineral, this is a remarkably finesse-full and expressive Champagne. It was disgorged in June 2015 with nine grams of dosage, but it tastes significantly more dry. The finish is full of tension and minerals, which makes this a seriously expressive Champagne of great elegance and ageing potential. The blend is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir. (SR)  (1/2016)

I had an opportunity to re-evaluate this wine on Friday, the 29th of June and it is still just spectacular! It has a lively nose of citrus (lemon/lime and a touch of tangerine) and cream with (light) bread dough. Super intriguing! On the palate, a super fine bead, with tiny bubbles, yellow (and green) fruits and fine cream. Absolutely delicious! A long, citrus and mineral finish, as well. Super elegant and just flat out delicious. It was favored (100%) by our staff over the other selections that were offered on that evening.

This barrel fermented Champagne always satisfies me when I want Champagne that is rich and complex. I love the grand scale of the Grand Cellier, a trait that Vilmart always delivers. I need to drink more of this!

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged. From fresh, crisp and minerally with apple and lemon notes to rich and buttery with tropical fruit overtones, Chardonnay runs the gamut.
