Sometimes a young Pinot is deceptive. This wine is young and silky, supple and fruity and has some sharp acidity, but it doesn’t overwhelm. It’s the kind of wine that doesn’t overshadow food. But it’s excellent Pinot. The depth of flavor and long finish suggest aging possibilities, but there’s no reason not to drink and enjoy it now.

This fully mature, outstanding Pinot Noir exhibits a dark garnet color with lightening at the edge. A sweet bouquet offers aromas of smoke, plums, cherries, and minerals in a delicate but forceful style. It is expansive and sweet on the palate, with good spice, excellent purity, medium body, and a long finish displaying admirable acidity as well as tannin. (RP)

A sleek, elegant, well-defined wine, with pretty black cherry fruit accented by smoke, orange rind, tea and cola notes. Firms up and shows a ripe wall of tannins. (JL)

A very complete and balanced wine with nicely developed soft, rich fruit and warm earthy tones. Seemingly younger and holding more fruit than Jensen. A really nice expression of Mills in the prime of its life!

Notes

Antonio Galloni for Vinous on the producer: "Since his debut vintage in 1978, Josh Jensen has shown he has the magic touch with Pinot Noir at Calera... remarkable Pinots that set the bar for what is possible in California." (06/2015)
