Wine Advocate
The 2009 Baron Louis Cotes du Rhone, made from six grapes (40% Grenache and the rest various proportions of Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvedre and Counoise) displays gamey balsam wood notes intermixed with underbrush, forest floor, black currants, sweet cherries and a hint of mulberries. There are plenty of various berry fruits and spices in this wine... (RP)

A rock-solid red, with crushed plum and fig fruit layered with cassis, black licorice and toasted spice flavors. Offers depth and character, with nice notes of tar and singed bay leaf rolling through the finish. (JM)

K&L Notes
An 88-acre estate, Château de Montfaucon sits just across the Rhône River from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe. Over the years, Château de Montfaucon has developed a HUGE following amongst both our staff and customers. Who is the Baron Louis? A seminal figure in the history of Montfaucon, he was responsible for restoring the Château of Montfaucon, saving it from complete ruin at the close of the 19th century. This latest release is produced from 50-to-90-year-old vines on select vineyard parcels on the right bank of the Rhône. This substantial yet elegant red can be enjoyed now, but it will be superb with several years more of cellar time. Try it with heartier fare like sirloin steaks dusted with fresh herbs.
