Pierre Paillard "Les Parcelles" Grand Cru Extra Brut Bouzy Champagne

SKU #1084730 92 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark The NV Champagne Grand Cru Les Parcelles Bouzy Extra Brut is 70% Pinot Noir with the remainder Chardonnay, with the base wine coming from the 2017 vintage. It reveals very attractive aromas of toasted brioche, raspberry, lavender, and black cherry, and it is dry and inviting, with pure red fruits that fill the palate, with its florality lasting long after the finish, with a cleansing lift of salinity. This beautiful wine is deceptively easy drinking now. (JD) 92+ Inner quote mark (11/2022)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Deep bronze colour. Surely lots of oak here? Rich on the nose. Almost sweet, which makes the Extra Brut all the more remarkable. Pretty full-on mousse. This is almost more like a pale red burgundy that happens to have bubbles. It has a suggestion of Pinot Gris perfume about it too. Quite a statement! And not a silly price for the distinctive character it offers. A labor of love? *Good Value* (JR) 17/20 points Inner quote mark (6/2020)

K&L Notes

I am incredibly excited about the extraordinary quality of this top grower's Champagne. The name might sound familiar, as they are cousins with the négociant Bruno Paillard. But their production is completely separate, and unlike Bruno, all estate-grown. And what an estate they have - 28 acres exclusively in the Montagne de Reims Grand Cru top village of Bouzy. There they exclusively cultivate their own selection of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay - they do not have a single clone on the estate. Although labeled as extra-brut, and dosed quite low at 1.8g/l, this is still a rich wine from ripe, south-facing parcels in the Grand Cru of Bouzy. This wine is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay with about 1/3 reserve wines. This wine has such power and presence it deserves a great pairing like lobster, but also has the elegance to enjoy as an aperitif. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

Pierre Paillard is one of my favorite Champagne producers. This is a first class producer. The Les Parcelles is lively with exceptional finesse and flavor. It is very dry but not austere because the quality of the fruit used helps make a giving and delicious Champagne with mineral notes and wonderful balance. This is delicious and very enjoyable. Don't wait too long, it sells out quickly because this is a high quality producer.

A Bouzy Grand Cru superstar! Such brilliant purity of fruit here: the nose is classic red berry Pinot Noir, while the bright acidity of Chardonnay shines through the palate. “Les Parcelles” is surprisingly juicy for the low dosage (3.5g!), and although the linear minerality shows up in a big way, this is easygoing for racy Extra Brut. Add its delicate bead and lingering finish and you have incredible quality non-vintage Champagne with the muscle to age well while drinking beautifully now. I indulgently paired this Pierre Paillard with weeknight Thai takeout and it was one of my happiest meals of the year.

This lower dosage, clean and linear Brut is one of the best that we carry. Green apples, bright cherry and lemon meringue notes on the nose. Granny Smith apple, tart cherry, and zippy lemon/lime and candied ginger flavors on the palate. There is even a bit of toasted pine nuts in the mix. There is a finish laden with chalk and minerals. When we have them, do NOT miss the magnums! They are priced extremely reasonably and will age for another 10 years. As it is, this little beauty in the 750 ml bottle will age well for 6-7 years.

It's not unusual for me to be blown away by Gary's champagne selections, but wow. This is a stunner and for such an incredible price it's a bit hard to believe. The purity and intensity of the minerality would be the focus if it weren't for the richness of the body. The red fruits are crystal clear - wild cherry and cold raspberries abound. It's a beautiful, refreshing, and elegant wine that is satisfying on its own but would also be perfectly paired with anything from cured meats to french fries. If it's salty and a little savory, this should hit the spot perfectly. Add to that the incredible pedigree of all Grand Cru Bouzy Estate fruit from massal selected vines and it's easily one of the best Champagnes available.

Non-vintage Champagne does not get much better than this. The Paillard family makes a statement with this great cuvee and show how very serious that they are about quality. All of the details have been studied and sweated over to make this wine, from planting only massal selected vines, to working towards an organic certification. This is Champagne that has power without losing its drinkability, and richness without sweetness. The Paillard's goal is to create terroir Champagne from the Grand Cru of Bouzy- and they have succeeded. If you are only going to try one new Champagne this year, this should be it!

Pierre Paillard is a favorite in my house and Les Parcelles is right up at the top. The nose has so much stone fruit for me, dominated by peach, apricot, and cherry. It's quite creamy with a little butter and soft floral notes. The palate kicks off with Meyer lemon followed by sour cherries, and as it heads towards the finish all this sparkler's chalky minerality comes out to shine. Epic Bouzy Grand Cru!

One whiff of this exquisite Champagne and my mouth is already watering. I love Champagnes of Pierre Paillard, I honestly can't think of a time they haven't vastly exceeded my expectations. With a rich nose of lemon curd and smoked honey-crisp apple, the pallet follows through with beautiful chalky minerality hints of red fruit and substantive weight. Despite the dosage at extra brut, the full weight of this wine brings it fully into balance. Descriptors don't quite do it justice. There is so much fine detail here, with new aromas and flavors that continue to appear each time I revisit the glass. One of those Champagnes that evokes as much pleasure of contemplation as it does for sheer, delicious enjoyment. For Champagne, this is a total package. Ten out of ten.

I have enjoyed this Bouzy champagne since I tried it for the first time 15 years ago, it will always hold a special place in my heart. The color takes on straw but you can see a hue of pink if you look real close. The aromas of red Bartlett pear, caramelized ginger, pink grapefruit, clementine, plum tart and toasted sesame seed show in a harmonious way. The mouthfeel is elegant and brimming with substantial minerality and med plus acidity. For the price this over achieves in its category and over-exceeds in flavor. Enjoy with lump crab cakes with a drizzle of saffron aioli.

Light, bright and golden on the eyes, this delicate champagne displays tight, creamy bubbles with the aroma of fresh, zesty citrus peel. On the mouth, the entry is marked with lively acidity, a hint of toast, wet stone, and green apple. Poised and pretty, this is a super treat and a perfect celebratory cuvée at a well-priced $50 mark. Super recommended!

This is an absolute steal from Pierre Paillard. This bone dry Champagne comes from the Grand Cru village of Bouzy which is known for its Pinot grapes and deep bed of chalk. This wine has wonderful citrus, red fruit and saline notes with a solid mineral backbone. I imagine this bottle of bubbles will drink very well over the next 8 year or so.

Bring on the weddings and summer celebrations! Les Parcelles Bouzy Grand Cru is sure to please the most discerning of palates. A beautifully balanced blend of all grand-cru pinot noir and chardonnay, Les Parcelles is very dry with an almost negligible dosage. This Champagne has a rich mouthfeel with flavors of lemon meringue and a dry, chalky minerality. A fantastic value for a grand cru Champagne.

This walks the line between richness and precision, and makes that balancing act look easy. The nose is an interplay of spicy, mineral notes, lemon zest, toastiness, and nuttiness, with no one element dominating. A fine mousse yields up the generosity of Brioche set against flinty, mineral flavors, with those rocky notions turning in a salty direction on the finish. I regret that we don’t have this in stock all the time, but I’m always happy that we have when we do. Those of you who already know this brut know how good it is; for those who don’t, reach for a bottle of Pailard’s brut instead of a more familiar Champagne, and you’ll find you have made a new best friend.

Simultaneously delicate and well-structured, this Grand Cru Brut stands head and shoulders above a mountain of clumsy, overly sweet non-vintage Champagne. Balancing pears, lemon curd, gentle minerality, creamy texture, and saline acidity, this certified organic bottling is the roundest, cleanest entry level Champagne to impress my palate in a while. A perfect pairing with almost anything, from duck liver mousse to fried chicken.

For Champagne loves who crave purity and true expression of the land, Pierre Paillard delivers some of the purest and cleanest bubbles that we carry. All from the Grand Cru of Bouzy, the sun warmed and ripened fruit sings out of the glass. Full of orchard and stone fruit bustring from the glass, summer peaches, golden apples, however these notes are balanced perfectly by a saline minerality that lends a light airiness to the wine. With a low dosage of 7 g/l the wine is dry and precise on the finish, with a lasting mineral note that leaves your mouth watering.

Phenomenal. I love these Champagnes. Very pure flavors, with clear Pinot Noir red fruit, and a juicy quality that belies how serious this wine is, and how seriously the Paillards take their vineyards (all massale selections) and their production. One of our favorites, and needless to say, very highly recommended.
