A stone's throw from the Roussillon village of Maury is where you'll find the lost vineyard that produces Les Clos Perdus' 2007 L'Extreme rouge. Here, in the shadow of a mighty Cathar castle grow old gnarly vines of Llandoner Pelut and Syrah. 50% of the wine is fermented in 400L new oak barrels, the remaining 50% is fermented in stainless steel tanks. After 9 months elevage, the two wines are blended, and reveal a wine of intensity and character that one can only find in wines from this region. Along with warm berry fruit and spice nuances that are hallmarks of wines from the Midi, the brooding intensity and heartiness of l'Extreme make it the perfect candidate for those cold winters nights when only a hearty roast and rich glass of red wine will suffice. Like a great dinner guest, it transmits the story of the warmth, richness and character of this rough-hewn wine growing region of France. 14% abv.
