2005 Chantegrive, Graves

Wine Advocate
This over-performing property has come though once again with a lovely 2005 that is slightly denser, richer and darker than usual, but very well-made, with charcoal, tobacco leaf, spice box, and black and red currants. It is medium-bodied but rich, with some light tannin to resolve. Drink it over the next decade. (RP)

Wine Enthusiast
A fresh, grassy, herbal wine, with great crisp acidity and intense Sauvignon Blanc flavors. It floats acidity and green flavors along with full, rich fruit. The Chantegrive estate is one of the most important in the southern Graves, an example of what can be done in the region, given investment. Screwcap. (RV)

Wine Spectator
Aromas of plum and toasted oak, with a hint of mineral. Full-bodied, with lovely, silky, polished tannins. Long and caressing. Best after 2010. (JS, Web-2008)
K&L Notes
The lovely, garnet-colored 2005 Château de Chantegrive is an even blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from Podensac. Delightfully complex without being overripe, the wine shows black fruit and light toast, supported by subtle tannins. How could you NOT like this wine? Plenty of mineral flavors and aromas. Rated a super value by Clyde. Open and drink!
