A captivating bouquet of crushed blueberries, cherries, lavender pastille and sweet smoke wafts up from the 2024 Etna Rosso. This soothes the palate with its silken textures, elevated by a core of juicy acidity. The 2024 goes down far too easily, tapering off long and pleasantly firm. This turns the pleasure dial to the max but maintains balance throughout. (EG)

Idda is the collaboration between Gaja and Graci on Etna's southwestern slope. The name is the Sicilian word for “she,” the familiar way local people refer to the volcano. The 2024 Etna Rosso comes from Biancavilla and combines Nerello Mascalese with Nerello Cappuccio. Fermentation and maceration last approximately three weeks in wood and concrete, followed by eighteen months of maturation in those materials. In its assessment of the 2024, Vinous emphasizes a silky texture and juicy acidity, alongside berry fruit, lavender and smoke. JamesSuckling.com's review adds chalky tannins and a refreshing finish.
