Lalocura Cuishe Batch 2026-A Destilado De Agave (500ml)

Eduardo Ángeles recognizes five distinct local forms of Agave rhodacantha collectively known in Santa Catarina Minas as Cuishe. This exceptional release combines the two best suited to cultivation: Cuishe Verde Penca Larga and Cuishe Verde Penca Corta. Once abundant around the village, rhodacantha populations have declined dramatically over the past four decades, making the preservation and cultivation of these traditional varieties increasingly important. Produced in April 2025, the mature agaves were roasted underground in a pre-Hispanic conical pit oven and twice distilled in clay pots, with the final strength adjusted exclusively through the integration of puntas and colas. Only 180 liters were produced at a formidable 49.85% ABV. Rich notes of chocolate and bright citrus frame the distinctive character of the agave, but the real attraction is the extraordinary clarity with which Ángeles captures the methods, landscape, and increasingly fragile agricultural heritage of Santa Catarina Minas.
