Slightly savory hints of dried marjoram and mushroom highlight this complex, burnished-gold sipper. The palate opens with mild raisin sweetness and finishes nutty, oxidized and relatively dry. -KN

Notes

The Vieux Pineau des Charentes from Jean Fillioux offers a rare opportunity to experience extended aged Pineau at a level seldom seen in the US market, with long maturation in oak lending remarkable depth and polish. Produced from estate grown grapes and fortified with Grande Champagne cognac, this Pineau is aged at least fifteen years allowing both fruit and oxidative complexity to fully develop. The bouquet is rich and inviting, showing dried fruits, walnuts, honey, gentle rancio, and subtle spice layered over a core of preserved grape freshness. On the palate it is mellow, round, and complex, with flavors of roasted almond, dried fruit, caramelized sugars, and soft oak framed by balanced sweetness and vibrant lift of acidity. Served lightly chilled, it excels as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with foie gras, fruit based desserts, or enjoyed slowly on its own. This is Pineau at its most serious and expressive, bridging the worlds of wine and spirits with elegance, restraint, and age driven complexity. Chairman’s Trophy, 95 points. Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation. (Ultimate Spirits Challenge) - 4 stars (Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal) -
