Reviewed November 2023This is a really beautiful white with apple, white truffle, caramel and hints of flint. Medium body and then finishes with such greatness and flavor that you say to yourself “what...?” Precise and focused finish. Wente clone. Drink or hold.

This vineyard sits at 500 ft, drenched in fog in the air and studded by gravelly loam on the ground. The nose is interesting right off the bat, as it gives off trademark long-aged barrel leesy characteristics that are reminiscent of some champagnes. A sticky caramel-like flavour envelops the tears-like backbone that proliferates. It has a weighty character–as in substantial–but it’s not a heavy wine. The saline and chalky components lift it, lightening its load and making a wholly pleasant drinking experience. (JG)

The 2021 Chardonnay El Diablo Vineyard was raised for 11 months in 45% new French oak and comes from a site in the Russian River Valley that sits above the fog line at 750 feet elevation. Pouring a bright straw/yellow hue, it has a fantastic nose of pure Meyer lemon, delicate matchstick, poached apples, and fresh flowers. Medium to full bodied, it retains a fantastic vertical feel through the palate, with ripe acidity and a beautiful, light, chalky texture, with notes of toasted oak on the long finish. This is an outstanding wine from Kosta Browne and will be an age-worthy white to check on over the next 10 years. Drink 2026-2036. (Drink between 2026-2036) (AF)
