Reviewed September 2020The fragrant black-cherry and black-raspberry aromas slowly pull you into this sleek, racy and super fine pinot noir. Very elegant and super long finish that takes your breath away, the fine-grained tannins already beautifully integrated. Great spice. Bottled unfiltered and unfined.

The 2018 Frauenberg Spätburgunder from Klaus-Peter Keller is a touch darker in color than the Bürgel, with the same beautiful synthesis of pure, vibrant fruit tones, a potpourri of spices and great soil signature. The nose delivers a superb aromatic constellation of black cherries, pomegranate, gamebird, cloves, a beautiful base of limestone, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, a touch of graphite and a restrained framing of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is precise, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a nice hint of sappiness at the core, great mineral drive and grip, ripe, buried tannins, lovely acids and a long, complex and perfectly balanced finish. Like the 2018 Bürgel, the 2018 Frauenberg is light on its feet out of the blocks, but is destined to expand with bottle age. It is a stunning young wine!

Keller's 2018 Frauenberg Spätburgunder GG comes along with just 12.3% alcohol and a concentrated, fascinatingly seductive, open and generous yet refined and floral bouquet of red and black currants, cherries and weathered limestones or even chalky aromas. Everything here is perfectly interwoven, precise, highly refined yet also intense. From vines roughly 30 years old and vinified with 50% whole clusters, the wine reveals a lean, fresh and elegant texture with silky tannins and a salivating purity. Cool as silk and full of finesse, with refreshing and spicy tannins that gave a tangy finish, this is a very elegant Frauenberg and arguably one of the finest made here. (SR)

Mid bright cherry red. A little spicy and not as sweet-smelling as the Bürgel. There’s more restraint in the fruit flavour, it’s a little more savoury, so incredibly pure and just slightly darker red in fruit profile. A touch of vanilla sweetness but not in the least oaky. The tannins are like a whisper, so breathlessly light. Great length, purity and precision. It dances but you feel it will never run out of energy and will dance the night away. 18/20 points (JH)
