Reviewed February 2020Soaring from the glass with scents of raspberries, plums and cherries, mingled with inviting nuances of peonies and dark chocolate, Lachaux's 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village is medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with lively acids and exquisitely refined tannins that frame a deep and sapid core of fruit. Higher elevation and an exposition tilted northwards gives a cooler edge to this wine. Very perfumed, it has poised raspberry aromas and perfect Chambolle typicity. Yet it's denser than expected, compact rather than robust or overtly tannic. The finish is limpid, though it seems to lack a little drive on the finish. But it's persistent and stylish. (SB)

The purple is beginning to move towards a crimson red. This is rather more robust than the 2019 and a little less sensual. A tress cuvée. Much more tannins, quite savoury, a little orange blossom mixed in, fair length, just a little bit betwixt and between for the moment. Then at the back of the palate the freshness of the fruit returns. Distinguished but adolescent.

A more elegant nose is comprised by notes of the fresh and airy essence of red and dark cherry, violet and soft spice wisps. Here too there is very good vibrancy to the lilting and well-detailed medium weight flavors that flash evident salinity on the focused, balanced and sneaky long finale. A quality Chambolle villages. *Outstanding, Top Value*
