Marie Duffau Napoleon Bas Armagnac (750ml)

SKU #1014550 90-95 points Wine Enthusiast

The opening nosings find smells of roasted chestnut and baked pear; later sniffings pick up succulent notes of pineapple, caramel, black raisins, prunes and old oak. The palate entry is creamy textured and semisweet; at the midpalate the flavor becomes integrated and very nutty/woody. Concludes oily, semisweet and oaky. *Best Buy, Highly Recommended* (12/2005)

Vinous

Rather dark in color for a six-year-old, Marie Duffau Napoléon is almost nut brown. Soft, warm orange aromas and sweet, round flavors of milk chocolate, sponge cake, and a spicy, pithy finish. Solid and affordable for such a young Armagnac. Bas-Armagnac, 40% abv. (JW) (7/2018)

K&L Notes

Only estate fruit, raised organically, is used in the production of these fine Armagnacs. Aged a minimum of six years. Flavors of cocoa, cake batter and vanilla. Soft tannins on the finish and a touch of rancio.

The easy drinking Marie Duffau Armagnacs have brought more people into this category than almost any other product. This is the country's best selling Armagnac and with good reason. If you're looking for round soft and supple this is about as good at anything at this price.

The Marie Duffau was my introduction to Armagnac. I'd been drinking a lot of bourbon at the time and was thrilled to discover that Armagnac is made very similarly, just with grapes! The Marie Duffau has been a staple on my bar ever since because it is FANTASTIC in cocktails. Try it in a Sidecar with some fresh pineapple and basil - the Duffeau's notes of caramelized pineapple, barrel spice, and vanilla will really pop!

I have been hooked to this Armagnac ever since working for K&L. Without going into details, the flavor is complex, spicy and nutty. A great nightcap on cool evenings! The Marie Duffau Napoleon is also the most affortable Armagnac in our line-up. A must try!

Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
