Old Pulteney 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

SKU #620175 Whisky Advocate

Scotland’s northernmost mainland distillery, located in the historic port of Wick, is owned by Inver House. The ‘entry level’ 12 year old expression is widely available. The nose presents pleasingly fresh malt and floral notes, with a touch of pine. The palate offers a fuller bodied, sweeter whisky than the nose might lead one to expect, with more malt, spices, fresh fruit, and a suggestion of salt. The finish is medium in length, drying, and decidedly nutty. (Fall 2011)

K&L Notes

The Old Pulteney distillery is the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, situated in the town of Wick. Your nose and palate discern complex combinations, robust yet delicate with a hint of sea air.

From the furthest northeast distillery in the Highland region, Old Pulteney has garnered somewhat of a cult following, and for good reason. This Highland finished in ex-bourbon casks opens with a rather densely fruited nose. Notes of dried apricot lay alongside hints of saline and salt. Underscored by a delicate barbecue smoke, with fairly light heat on the finish, this is a lovely little whiskey to sip on as spring unfolds.
