Reviewed January 2025Beguiling and persistent fragrances of sandalwood, mocha and cherry lead to undertones of wet forest flora and alpine herbs on the lively, lithesome palate. Sandy-textured tannins are speckled throughout, coming together in a graceful grip. The fruit is juicy and sapid. The least expensive and most approachable in the range, though not without signature tension. Referencing the estate’s rich truffle hunting ground, La Tartufaia is the lowest parcel (still a lofty 460m) looking west towards the imposing snow-capped Alps. (MM)

Giulia Negri’s 2021 “La Tartufaia” Barolo is a graceful and aromatic expression of Nebbiolo, sourced from sandy, high-elevation vineyards in La Morra. The nose is delicate yet complex, with layers of rose petal, red currant, and blood orange, accented by hints of spice, mint, and forest floor. On the palate, refined tannins and vibrant acidity support a core of fresh red fruit and savory undertones. The finish is long and lifted, with floral and mineral nuances. A finely textured, elegant Barolo that captures the perfume and finesse of its unique site.
