Reviewed October 2022The dark-hued Cents Vignes shows mulberry and cassis fruit with notes of rose petals and earth. There is an impressive depth of flavour on the palate, good density for the vintage, and firm tannins. The 1.20-hectare holding is among the jewels in this portfolio. The vines were first planted in 1959; in 2021, the yield was 15hl/ha. This wine should drink young will doubtless improve in bottle for at least a decade. (CC)

This is also pretty but brooding with its reticent nose of plum, dark currant, more discreet earth and crushed anise scents. The sleek, detailed and punchy medium-bodied flavors also conclude in a youthfully austere and slightly more complex finale that it shaped by firm but fine-grained tannins. Lovely. *Burghound Outstanding!*

This bottle here is one that seems a little more tightly knit still - the finish hinting at sandalwood and white pepper overlayed the black cherry fruit which I could see both in the nose and the mouth; not too weighty but well balanced. I agree too with our critics that speak of the floral aromatics, but they are subtle in the classic Burgundian way. I would personally age this wine for several years before opening, as those aromatics should evolve quite well and the bottle should gain some of the savoury-sweet weight we love in aged burgundy.

Although it starts out tartly, the red fruits on the palate expand quickly and fill the mouth with rich black cherries, red plums, light chalk and a hint of anise. A nice smattering of earth rounds out the palate. Quite excellent!
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "More clay and silt here at the bottom of the slope, vines planted in 1962. So wide and classy – this nose is almost silky. Ooh – yes – a wine of fluidity and energy, a faint tannin at its base is almost additive – the floral-infused flavours offer just a glimpse of oak in the finish. That’s really a fabulous Beaune – Bravo!" (01/2023)
