Somerset Cider Brandy Co. Morello Cherry Liqueur (375ml)

SKU #1339726

With a farm consisting of over 180 acres of apple orchards, Julian Temperley has been distilling brandy and making cider at Somerset since 1989 when he was granted the UK's first ever cider-distilling license. Cider production in the UK dates back to the Romans, but the West of England in particular has a number PGIs - protected geographical origins - where the orchards are treated like Burgundian vineyards, each with its own particular terroir. The Morello cherry liqueur is made by using apple eau-de-vie as a base for macerating local Somerset Morello cherries. It's thick and rich on the palate, but it balances the sweetness with a tartness from the fruit. Absolutely stunning.

Love your Luxardo Cherries? Get a bottle of this and find a whole new way to bring intense cherry flavor to your cocktails. While this is both sticky and sweet, it never feels cloying due to an amazingly vibrant acidity. I am taking a bottle home tonight to sub into a Singapore Sling for the Cherry Heering and see what happens. I quite confident the results will be extraordinary. My only problem will be how to avoid putting it on or in everything. At first blush I see candidates in ice cream, chocolate cake, spritz cocktails, Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, and pancakes. I'm sure more ideas will flow as I have a drink or two...

When we tasted this liqueur with the staff at the San Francisco store it was certainly a favorite with plenty of "oohs" and "wows". This is dangerous good if you like cherries. The base spirit is apple brandy with helps give this liqueur uplift and focus. The nose is bright cherry and very inviting. In the mouth it has mouth filling cherry flavors. This is great enough to drink alone. A beautiful work of art that reflects the fantastic people who grow and distill it. A true farm to bottle product.
