1991 Cameronbridge 25 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Grain Scotch Whisky (750ml)

SKU #1331545

Cameronbridge is one of Diageo's workhorse grain whisky distilleries, creating the backbone for its world famous brands like Johnnie Walker and White Horse, while simultaneously serving as the home for grain neutral products like Tanqueray and Pimm's. The dual purpose site is one of the biggest producers of spirit in the UK and because of that volume we were able to snag a very hot price on a 25 year old single grain Scotch barrel, mellowed naturally at a very drinkable 45.9% ABV cask strength. Those who enjoy the simple pleasure that is grain whisky will find nothing new here, just a great value from the still misunderstood genre. Loads of vanilla and caramel mix with candied orange and spicy oak to create a smooth and supple finish. Imagine drinking the foundation of Johnnie Walker Blue on its own, with no water added, and that about summarizes the experience here. It's magical on the rocks.

This should please fans of grain whiskey. It has a lot of offer in terms of both flavor and aromatics. The nose has a nice caramel and rich nuance. In the mouth this whiskey is round and concentrated with soft caramel and honey flavors with a touch of sweetness. With a splash of water it opens up adding a soft creamy element.

At first blush I thought this to be another straightforward grain cask. Delicious, cheap, rich, smooth, and very crushable. Upon returning to it the next day I've found a surprisingly complex dram. Still all vanilla and richness upfront, but underneath there is an herbaceousness that I didn't really see before. It reminds me just a touch of funky rum with a little hint of banana and floral esters coming through. Need a big age statement to add to the collection and serve to guests but don't want to break the bank? This is the ticket.

This is a very intruiging Scotch. It is complex and very layered. The nose is full of warm spice, baked appes dusted with cinnamon allspice and clove, there is also a vein of dried orange peel, and sweet praline pecan. In the background I get a little vanilla bean and dried leaves. The palate is smooth and creamy, creme brulee, carmelized bananas, and juicy fresh pear lingers on the palate.

25 year old full proof Scotch for eighty bucks. Yes, it's all grain. Yes, we've been blowing through grain whisky like water here at K&L because the pricing is so ridiculous. No, this will not last forever. Eventually, this well of affordable grain Scotch whisky will run dry, but I'm going to buy every last barrel I can before it does. The 25 year Cameronbridge is a rich and easy to drink whisky that tastes like it's two and a half decades old with plenty of texture and weight. Those looking for something fancy at well under $100 should seriously think about committing here.
