1994 Auchroisk 23 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

SKU #1298478

While our previous cask of Auchroisk 15 year was a hot deal while it lasted, this advanced and equally brilliant 23 year old edition may have it beat. Absolutely brimming with sweet stone fruit, rock sugar candy, and syrup, this barrel of 53.3% cask strength single malt whisky from Diageo's Highland distillery brings yet another bang for your buck under the guise of Old Particular. The nose has all the classic aromas of malted barley, vanilla, and oak spices, but it's the initial blast on the palate where this whisky ultimately shines. Rich and robust on the finish, it's a classic Scottish malt through and through and the unbeatable price reflects our continued effort to combat the current market with affordable, mature, and exciting whiskies straight from the source.

Old school easy drinking here. This has a beautiful malty profile and is just laden with stone fruit, caramel, and burnt sugars. Fresh sawn oak, buttered toast, and honeyed granola on the palate and a persistent finish. Extremely enjoyable, clean, and fresh, this Johnnie Walker distillery isn't often bottled on its own, but thanks to our direct relationship with through Old Particular we are able to source this rare gem for our savvy K&L whisky fans. The 15 year old Auchroisk went quick and for just an extra 30 bucks you can pick up what feels like much more than 8 additional years of aging.

The 15 year old bottling from this distillery was one of my favorite Old Particulars that we brought in this year, in fact I still have a little left at home that I have been nursing. I saw this bottling come in and was excited, then I tasted it and realized I had not been excited enough. This is some seriously delicious booze, I mean like ridiculously good. The nose has a lovely toasted sugar quality with some vanilla, but then when I sipped it this Scotch really sang. Golden honey graham cracker with long notes of warming spice and an amazing finish makes this whisky delightfully sippable. Even at cask strength there is very little heat here and a little water is only needed to help open it up even further, not necessarily calm it down.

I first tasted this single cask selection without water. This Auchroisk 23 has pretty aromas of honey and wax that are very inviting. This is not a full bodied or heavy single malt, but is on the light side with concentrated flavors of honey and wax, reflecting the bouquet. It did work well without water. With water, the flavor profile stays about the same but it was softer and more creamy.

If you're a fan of straight-up single malt, not saturated sherry or super peaty whiskies, but old school, fruit and vanilla-laden Scotch with a rich and supple mouthfeel, then it doesn't get better than this Auchroisk 23. The Johnnie Walker distillery makes classically flavored whiskies much like its neighbor Benrinnes, loaded with cocktail fruit, sweetness and charm. Any time I can nab a single barrel of 23 year old Highland whisky of this quality (at cask strength, no less) for under $100, I'm going to take that offer. I'm expecting about 200 experienced K&L whisky customers to do the exact same thing.
