Russell's Reserve "K&L Exclusive" Single Barrel #3181 Kentucky Bourbon (750ml)

SKU #1282145

Fresh off our late Summer visit to Kentucky, we've got two new K&L single barrel selections ready to go just in time for the holiday season. It's no secret we're big fans of the Kickin' Chicken and getting the chance to go around with the legendary Jimmy Russell and pick barrels out of the Wild Turkey warehouse is an opportunity we'll never pass on. Barrel #3181 is a dialed up version of everything you love about the Russell's Reserve whiskies: big Red Hot cinnamon spice, sweet oak up front, leaner on the palate, with a finish that brings more of that clove and baking spice we love so much in the Wild Turkey whiskies. Whereas barrel #246 was almost un-Turkey-like, this is quintessential Russell's Reserve at 55% ABV. The finish is full of bold oaky notes that meld seamlessly with the spice and continue to increase in intensity for a good twenty seconds. For holiday drinking, this is quite the festive whiskey! Every time we get a new single barrel in from Russell it ends up in my top picks for bourbon, and barrel 3181 is no exception to this rule. In fact, this may be my personal favorite thus far. Unlike most other Russell bourbons this displays a more unique earthier nose with a touch of toffee in it. Less vanilla-driven on the palate, the bourbon shows layers of fruity butterscotch and, of course, cinnamon and clove. Despite the big flavors, this whiskey has a surprisingly smooth finish with spice that lingers on the palate.

Delicious, fun and interesting. There are subtle aromas of vanilla and caramel as one would expect. In the mouth, Barrel 3181 sets itself apart with with spice and wood flavors that are well integrated with honey and caramel tastes. It is a slightly lighter, drier and more delicate barrel than usual. Most importantly, this is a tasty bourbon that pleases and delivers.

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
