James Suckling

Reviewed September 2015
Aromas of stainless and sliced apple with hints of melons, lemons and spices. Full-bodied, very tight and lean with a gorgeous salinity. Almost a white pepper character. A triumph. A beauty. So dry and intense. Amazing. Drink or hold.

One of Trimbach’s top wines, this impressive Riesling, with all its bottle time, is maturing beautifully. It has that petrol character that is typical of aged Riesling, as well as a strong sense of steeliness and intense acidity on the finish. *Editors' Choice*

Austere, mineral nose. Fresh, vivid palate is dry and tight, yet doesn’t lack fruit. Excellent grip and long, stony finish.

Racy, finely tuned acidity frames this elegant white, supporting a subtle, layered palate. Shows base notes of petrol and brine, tangy apple, grapefruit zest, fresh forest and candle wax. Long, long minerally finish.

Notes

95 points Jean Fisch and David Rayer for Mosel Fine Wines: "This delicate wine is all about finesse and freshness on the nose as breathtaking fresh notes of herbs, spices and white minerals emerge from the glass. A hugely focused and yet intense feel of white minerals, ripe pear and wet stone peps up the palate and leads to a lively and zesty feel in the almost razor-sharp and focused finish. The beautiful after-taste is bone dry. This wine may prove somewhat light at first but the precision, finesse and elegance are simply remarkable. In many ways, it transcends the ripeness of the vintage and behaves more like a 2008 or 2004 than a typical 2007 Riesling. What an admirable Cuvée Frédéric." (04/2017) Of the various Trimbach Rieslings, the Cuvée Frédéric Émile is among the finest. Classic, structured and very very long with layers of minerality and texture. Clean and racy with bright citrus with a salty textural core of mid fruit and balanced finish with juicy layers of acidity. With fantastic freshness throughout, this wine will remain quite young for years to come. (Eric Story, K&L Alsace Buyer)
