The 2002 vintage looks to be very promising for the Cotes de Blancs wines, with much in common with the great 1990 harvest. The Bonville family owns 50 acres of Grand Cru vineyards and uses exclusively estate fruit in this wine. Just across the Rhône river from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this 88-acre estate is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe (in Châteauneuf). Fans of toasty Champagne take note- this is one of our biggest! A blend of 33% pinot noir, 33% meunier and 33% chardonnay from vines averaging about 25 years on the families estate vineyards in Brouillet. This Champagne has a very pretty golden straw color. 100% hand harvested Chenin Blanc from a parcel of Schist laden soil in the commune of Saint Lambert. It is vinified in 500 liter Tonnes on its lees until bottling in May. The wine is saturated with wet stone flavors with hints of stone fruits, ginger and sweet herbs and honey. A great bargain at this price thanks to a distributor closeout.
