1999 Mas Doix "Costers de Vinyes Velles" Priorat

SKU #997836

92 points from Stephen Tanzer! The 1999 Mas Doix is the fattest, flashiest new Priorat I have had in a while! At Mas Doix, they aim to achieve high quality red wines by growing the finest grapes and using minimal manipulation. Made from a blend of 55% Garnacha, 40% Carinena, and 5% Merlot, it is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. This Priorat has plenty of ripe blackberry fruit, crème de cacao, and spice. From the richness on the palate to the long sustained finish, the Mas Doix is one of the most complete and well-balanced Priorats out there. Keep this wine in your cellar for the next 5-7 years. Only 375 cases made…we only have 5 6-packs! Stephen Tanzer says: Bright medium ruby. Slightly baked, enticingly sweet aromas of black raspberry, spice box, espresso and bitter chocolate. Concentrated, creamy and harmonious, with a compelling sweetness making it accessible right now. Ripe but not at all cooked. Finishes long and juicy, with rather suave tannins. A very good showing.
