93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark From one of the largest and most highly touted vintages in a great decade, this is large and fairly fat. The cassis, fruitcake and menthol nose and sweet blackberry and chocolate palate aim to please…and do just that. It feels a bit low in acidity, making it lush and forward, displaying a bit of heat and a looser structure. Still, this pleasure package is young, and the long, dark finish shows even, well-dispersed tannins. Inner quote mark (4/2002)

K&L Notes

"An elegant, intensely concentrated wine with vibrant blackberry and black cherry fruit flavors. This wine exhibits rich, deep color and hints of mint, spice and cassis. The 1997 growing season in Sonoma County produced an outstanding harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit," says the winemaker. "With a history of crafting exceptional wines, Kenwood Vineyards Winemaker, Mike Lee, selected grapes for the 1997 Artist Series cuvée predominantly from the Lindholm and Montecillo Vineyards. Both vineyards are located at an elevation of about 1,400 feet on the Mayacamas mountain range, bordering the eastern side of Sonoma Valley." The 1997 label boasts a work called "Route Terasse au Soleil a Ceret" by the self-taught artist Rizo, an noted expressionist painter of Greek and French descent.
