Very dark crimson. Extremely concentrated, hint of treacle. Sweet start and then very fresh and still chewy. Seems quite youthful! Was there a lot of press wine in here? Rather like essence of 1987 red bordeaux. Lots of acidity and just a hint of greenness in here. Not a charmer but it’s impressive. (JR) 17.5/20 (5/2015)
The 1987 Margaux exhibits a much more herbal note than one normally finds, but there is good richness, as well as a solid texture, suggesting concentration and depth. The wine is a bit narrow and compact in the finish, which leads me to believe that it will continue to evolve and open up. (RP) (1/1998)
Smells and tastes terrific, turning a bit tannic and tough on the finish, showing rich, ripe plum, prune and currant aromas and the same character when it hits the palate. (5/1990)
