Riedel's Vinum Bordeaux glass is designed to smooth the edges of young, full-bodied, complex red wines that are high in tannin, emphasizing fruit and helping the wines to achieve openness and balance that aging generally creates. According to Riedel, the large bowl allows the bouquet to develop fully and the shape directs the flow of wine onto the zone of the tongue that perceives sweetness, accentuating the fruit and de-emphasizing the bitterness of the tannins.
