A blast from the past. Anchor distilling was founded in 1993 by Fritz Maytag and was housed in the same facility as the famed Anchor Steam Brewery which has just been tragically shut down by its corporate owners that purchased the facility in 2017. In that 2017 deal, Anchor Distilling, which was not included in the sale of the brewery, lost both its home in the brewery and its name. It rebranded as Hotaling and still makes the spectacularly delicious Junipero gin in its new home at Pier 50 in SF. While they rebranded into a new modern package shortly after the Hotaling name change, there are a ton of folks who miss both the Anchor name and the old school shapely bottle. It turns out there were a handful of cases of the old bottling tucked away a Hotaling warehouse somewhere and we were able to unearth them. This is the gin that led the craft gin boom when it was first released in 1996. Bottled un-chillfiltered and at a robust 49.3% ABV this is a San Fancisco classic and one last shot at the original bottle shape. Note these bottles are labeled "San Francisco Strength" but that was just a marketing sticker for local SF sold bottle, not actually a different proof from the original. It is 49.3% ABV.
