Aroma is dry, clean, and grainy, with background notes of parchment and litchi; later passes offer semisweet, mildly smoky/ashy scents of charcoal and smoldering embers. Palate entry is firm, moderately oily, bittersweet; at midpalate concentrated and spicy grain flavors mingle adroitly with the smoky, sap- and resin-sweet birch-charcoal filtering influence. Stoli, originally founded as Stolichnaya, is a proudly Latvian gin. Founded by Yuri Shefler, a Russian born businessman, it has been produced in Latvia since Mr. Shefler was exciled from Russia in 2000 after conflict with the Putin regime. Their Latvian factory sources their materials from third parties - specifically, labels from Ukraine, Latvia, and Italy, caps and closures from Ukraine, glass from Poland and Estonia, shippers from Latvia and Estonia, and their Alpha Grade Spirit from Slovakia and Russia. In direct response to Putin's invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022, they immediately stopped sourcing Russian spirit and are now 100% Russian free vodka. The brand has dropped the Stolichnaya name to just "Stoli" and built out additional support for their Ukrainian partners. While K&L has dropped all Russian vodka from our shelves, we continue to stock this excellent vodka. 97 points, Beverage Testing Institute: "Clear. Very neutral aromas of river rocks, faint anise, and custard. A silky, effortless entry leads to a glycerous, dryish medium-to-full body of sweet cream, powdered sugar, talc, and tarragon, and honeyed lemon verbena flavors. Finishes with long, smooth wet stone and lemon custard-like fade. Superb texture, smoothness, and clean pure flavors." International Review of Spirits Award: Platinum Medal.
