1996 Cardinale Napa/Sonoma Counties Bordeaux Blend

SKU #301117 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 1996 Cardinale is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot, of which 62% came from Napa and 38% from Sonoma. Just under 3,000 cases were produced. It is also a top rank wine, and a star of the vintage. A saturated purple color is followed by licorice, cedar, fruit cake, and black currant aromas. Full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated, with low acidity but high tannin, this young, muscular classic should have fabulous aging potential.(RP) Inner quote mark (1/2000)

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Full ruby-red. Bordeaux-like aromas of roasted plum, currant, smoke and tobacco. Lush, pliant and expressive; doesn't possess quite the grip, structure or length of the '97 but this is smooth and captivating. Finishes with fine tannins and very good length. (ST) Inner quote mark (6/1999)

Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Sleek, intense and concentrated, showing earthy currant, cedary oak and blackberry, with a hint of soy and a touch of earthiness. Complex and long on the finish, with subtle nuances that end with a gravelly edge. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. (JL, Web Only-2007) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

Located in the heart of Napa Valley’s Oakville District, and owned by Jackson Family Estates, Cardinale makes a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend from top Napa Valley appellations--the 2001 was the last vintage that was a blend of Jackson's mountain Cabernet from Sonoma and Napa counties.
