Dry-tilled black earth, leather strands & incredibly fresh spice rack aromatics lead the charge for this lovely bottle of Napa Tempranillo. Though from the '17 vintage, this bottling is *just* beginning to enter into its proper drinking window, with astoundingly pure, earthy fruit on the palate. Touches of coastal sage, vine-fresh blackberry, and a gentle leading finish of "sweet" tobacco wrap.....and not to mention the *obscenely* affordable price we landed this wine for, which is going to beat out much, if not all Rioja on our shelves right now. If Tempranillo isn't a grape that you consider when thinking of Napa, give Revik a fair shake at a fair price, and prepare to be impressed! (At this pricing, consider a six pack to cellar for an extra 2-5 years!)

What a beautiful and unique wine here. Napa Valley Tempranillo from the famed Stagecoach Vineyard high on Atlas Peak...for this price!? Revik is a small boutique winery that champions some less mainstream varietals than most in the region. This wine is sourced from one single block of Tempranillo planted to a Ribera del Duero clone of Tempranillo planted on the mountain terraces of Stagecoach in the vineyard's rugged, volcanic, boulder strewn soils. Winemaker Philip Holbrok (who happens to be related to the Mondavi Family) set out to create an homage to the powerful, age worthy Tempranillos of Spain. The wine had a long maceration on skins before being aged in new and used French oak for 21 months. At 7 years of age, the wine is only now starting to unwind like a Reserva style Rioja. Redolent with dusty, earthy red fruits, leather, mountain chaparral, crushed rock, iron, baking spice. Medium bodied, with nice grippy tannin structure that would be a great match with grilled lamb, cured meat or a traditional Chorizo stew. Despite the pedigree of the mountain fruit, quality of the wine, and beautiful packaging (complete with hand-waxed bottles) Tempranillo is not the easiest of sells in a world dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon...therefore we were able to take the remaining cases of this wine for an absolute song (66% off the winery SRP)! If you like hearty, soulful wines with a great combination of fruit, earth, and rocky minerals, this is a case buy for you! Incredible value!
