2022 Diseño de California Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $50+)

SKU #1701068

Here we go again! Round #2 - Diseño de California is a private label made for K&L by one of the most critically acclaimed winemakers in Santa Barbara County. With 100-point wines to their name, you never get your hands on this person's wines at this price. Originally destined as a $50-$90 bottling, sourced from some of the most famous and highly regarded vineyards in the west Sta. Rita Hills...this Pinot Noir now represents one of the very best values we seen in years at K&L. The price is just ridiculous thanks to our direct deal and our agreement not to reveal the wines' source or winemaker. Trust me...you need a case of this...maybe more. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Domestic Wine Buyer)

Back again for the 2022 vintage, once again Diseno is a collaboration between K&L and one of the most prestigious and highly acclaimed wineries in Santa Barbara. This wine is sourced from some of the most revered estate vineyards in all of the Sta. Rita Hills. Basically we get extra barrels and lots that don't fit the program for their own wines that sell for $50-90. We work out a killer price, put it under this private label, and are sworn to secrecy not to reveal who made it or exactly what vineyards it was sourced from. So if you're looking for one of the sharpest deals out there in Pinot Noir, you've found it! This is classic Sta. Rita Hills Pinot with potent bright red berry fruits, silk textures, Asian spice, fresh vibrant acidity, and tons of minerality from those white diatomaceous earth and chert soils. It's drinking beautifully right out of the bottle with all that primary, youthful fruit, but it will also settle in and continue to improve for 3-5 years and probably age 10 years if you're so inclined. I couldn't be happier with this ongoing project; last vintage both the rosé and Pinot Noir sold out fast when folks got to taste just how good the wine is for the price...and this vintage we sharpened the pencil even further getting the Pinot Noir under $20! Yep, seriously good Sta. Rita Hills grown Pinot Noir, from a top winemaker, under $20!

Wow. The 2022 Diseno Pinot Noir has Santa Rita Hills written all over it. Intensely red fruited in an agile frame, I love the density and complexity of the fruit here. Tart cranberry, raspberry, ripened strawberry–this every form of red fruit rolled all into one. The depth and complexity here are elegant, the fruit balanced with a tenuous acid line all leading to a smoldering finish. Outstanding Pinot for the price.

One of the best Pinot Noirs that I have tasted in quite a long time. A fragrant nose of fresh red fruits, cherry and rose hips. Lovely and pretty on both the nose and the palate. Flavors of black raspberry and wild cherry with light chalkiness. A wonderful bargain!
