One of our newest direct imports comes from the region of Cote Roannaise in the area known as the Upper Loire. This region, technically in the Loire Valley, is actually closer to Beaujolais and like its neighbor, Gamay reigns supreme. The grape here goes by the name Gamay St-Romain and is a specific clonal selection that is a little different than the regular Gamays you may see in Beaujolais. The "Arris" is vibrant with red raspberry fruit, sweet spices but has a light sanguine character that gives you that feeling of French terroir. It's that classic earthiness that makes this wine even more appealing. Serve as is or with a light chill and you have one of the best new arrivals for light to medium reds in the store right now.
