Outer quote mark DWWA 2022 "Opulent and inviting aromatics, with pretty rose petal, heady sandalwood and plush blueberry on the nose, while the palate is laced with lush plum, a zippy acidity and velvety smooth tannins." Inner quote mark (7/2022)

Outer quote mark From vineyards more than 1,800 meters high in Cafayate, in the Calchaquíes Valley, deep in the Andes. This desert wine is rich in ripe and succulent red fruits, and on the palate, it has firm and tense acidity that marks the contours of the mouth, brightens the flavors, and accentuates the tannins, giving it more grip. A red for beef stew, this is 85% malbec, 10% tannat, and 5% petit verdot. Inner quote mark (1/2023)

Outer quote mark The dark red 2021 Malbec is young, primary and fresh, with ripe fruit and nice balance. It is varietal and has notes of violets and small berries and a touch of herbs. It's medium-bodied with medium ripeness and moderate alcohol, 13.9%. In reality, it's not 100% Malbec, as it contains 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot. A serious red for very little money. Outer quote mark It says Malbec on the label, but this lightly wooded red also includes 15% of perfectly legal Tannat and Petit Verdot. Earlier picked for freshness, it’s sappy and textured, showing plum and blackberry fruit, a waft of violet and refreshing acidity. Inner quote mark (6/2022)

K&L Notes

Amalaya is located at almost 6000 feet above sealevel in the Calchaquí Valley in Northern Argentina. The climate in Salta is high desert, with anual rain levels below 150mm. The soils are sandy over rocks and it has the day/night time temperature swings are drastic. You can see and taste this in the wine, it is just a little more satured in color and the intensely flavored. The later is helped with the addition of Tannat and Petite Verdot, this is no simple Malbec, the aromatic fruit is supported with more tannin and concentration that usual found by other Malbecs in this price point. This is Malbec for stews and serious grilled meats.

Plush boysenberry and red cassis nose. On the palate, structured tannin and spice with darker cassis fruit and light herbal notes. This Malbec very elegantly bridges that gap between the more common "plush" style and the less common "tannic" style built for the long-term cellaring. One of the best that I've had in close to a year.
