While Pinot Grigio seems ubiquitous to us here in America it has a different reputation in Italy. In Friuli, which is a predominantly white wine making area, Pinot Grigio is looked at as an export machine and also the “Festa” wine because it is so open, fruity and easy to drink! Floral and fruity, Pinot Grigio offers easy aromas and flavors that entice both novice and expert. Pinot Grigio is usually a bit round and simplistic, but this wine has facets, brilliant edges emphasizing the fruit and spice. It still has plenty of weight and richness but coupled with that central purity, lifting its flavors, easy to drink and accompanies almost any dish. 2021 has produced the best wines I have ever tasted from Ermacora (by the way, it is pronounced air-MA-kor-ra). The wines have beautiful aromatics, rich bodies, and vibrant cores.

Pinot Gris

- Also known as Pinot Gris in France, where it originated as a mutation of Pinot Noir. The berries can vary in color from yellowish to bluish-violet producing wines that range from white to slightly pink. The most successful wines from the grape come from the Collio in Friuli (Northeast Italy), where the wines are light- to medium-bodied, crisp, dry and, because of their high acidity, complementary to the region's foods like speck, Prosciutto di San Daniele and polenta. In Alsace, where the grape takes a back seat to more popular varietals like Gewürztraminer and Riesling, it is generally rich and honeyed. Other successful plantings of Pinot Grigio exist in Austria, Germany, Hungary and Romania, with even smaller amounts planted in British Columbia, Australia, New Zealand and California.
