James Suckling
An attractive, fresh red with rich black-fruit character and stony minerality. Some cedar wood as well. Medium-bodied with outstanding depth and fine tannins. Spicy undertone. Will get even better in a year or two.

Vicky Pons makes this unwooded Malbec from younger vines planted in 2001, aiming to reflect “the personality of Agrelo”. Supple, smooth and textured, it’s the kind of inexpensive red that will delight the grape’s many fans, with fresh acidity plum and summer pudding flavours.
Decanter
Focused and defined scents of blackberries, vanilla and leather. Fruit-forward and juicy, with dense tannins. (Panel tasting)

Vinous
An unaged Malbec from Agrelo. Pure and elemental, offering fresh plum and white pepper. Indulgent on the palate, it is simple, mild and full of flavor, and extremely good value for money. (JH)

K&L Notes
Melipal is a beautiful 87-hectare estate in Agrelo, Lujan De Cuyo on the outskirts of Mendoza that is focused on sustainable farming of Malbec. This current estate was founded in 2002 by the Aristi family, but some plots of Malbec date back to 1923, with the remainder being planted in the early 2000s. Hitting their prime, these 15-20-year-old vines combine with old-growth Malbec for a wine that is both fresh and fruity, but not lacking for intensity—a unique expression of the special Lujan De Cuyo terroir. Normally coming to the US market around $20 per bottle, we've secured a parcel at half price making this the perfect wine to pop on a casual night for a tremendous value drinking experience.
