Melipal is a beautiful 87-hectare estate in Agrelo, Lujan De Cuyo on the outskirts of Mendoza that is focused on sustainable farming of Malbec. This current estate was founded in 2002 by the Aristi family, but some plots of Malbec date back to 1923, with the remainder being planted in the early 2000s. Hitting their prime, these 15-20-year-old vines combine with old-growth Malbec for a wine that is both fresh and fruity, but not lacking for intensity—a unique expression of the special Lujan De Cuyo terroir. Normally coming to the US market around $20 per bottle, we've secured a parcel at half price making this the perfect wine to pop on a casual night for a tremendous value drinking experience.

The Melipal Malbec reveals a brightness and freshness on the nose. Displaying ripe red melon, lush red cherry, strawberry, and raspberry aromatics in flowing with florals of star jasmine, violets, and clove like spices. The lingering red fruited mouthfeel delivers a burst of forward vigor that makes this extremely easy and satisfyingly to drink on any given day. The price point is undeniably friendly, but the wine is also exceptionally tasty.

The excellent 2018 vintage in Mendoza has yielded a very polished Malbec from Melipal. In the glass it pours with a beautiful ruby red rim and a deep garnet core. The nose is a sultry mix of fresh blackberries, plum compote, and a light dusting of cocoa. On the palate that ripe fruit mingles with a distinct crushed stone minerality and a very refined tannin structure. This wine punches way above its price point, even at full price. At half off, it's a no brainer!

A fresh, vibrant, and juicy Malbec, this gem is impressive for how light on its feet it is for such a flavorful wine. Bright raspberry and red cherry envelop the palate that finishes with a slight salinity, gentle tannins, and a long finish. Irresistibly thirst quenching, this gem of a find is going to be impossible to resist and just leaves you imaging a warm weather evening with food and friends.

Malbec

- These days if you're drinking a Malbec it's probably from Argentina. The most planted grape in that country, varietally-labeled Argentine Malbecs are one of the wine market's great values, prized for their slight herbal component and dark, luscious fruit. Structurally, Argentina's Malbecs are much different than those grown in the grape's native France; they are riper, fruitier and fleshier. In France, the best iterations of Malbec can be found in the Cahors, where it can be quite decadent. It is also planted in the Loire Valley, where it is called Côt and is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon or Gamay, and in Bordeaux, where it has fallen from favor in many of the region's great blends because it is difficult to grow. In the United States, the varietal is frequently added to Meritage wines - Bordeaux style blends - but it is rarely found on its own.

Only four countries in the world produce more wine than Argentina. The Mendoza region is the most important region in Argentina's wine industry. And Malbec, among other Bordeaux varietals grown here, reigns supreme.
