There's no amount of Caol Ila that we're not interested in. This wonderful distillery on the northern shore of Islay remains one of the great values for independent bottlers. The gorgeous maritime character and medium peat style is an approachable way into the Islay category, but isn't in the slightest bit too tame for seasoned peat lover. The old distillery was founded in 1846 overlooking the Islay Strait for which its name. Across from the distillery the majestic paps of Jura sit calmly in the distance. Considering the incredible volumes this distillery can produce its a impressive the constant quality level we see across independent bottlings. Unfortuntaley, the owners do not offer many distillery bottlings, but we're happy to enjoy it straight out of the cask as we have here. This lovely medium aged refill hoggie was distilled in January 2011 and bottled without chillfiltration in October of 2022 at 55.8% alc. by vol. It's not had any color or water added before bottling and will do well with some good spring water added to open up the full potential of this excellent dram.
