Glengoyne specializes in elegant, ethereal malt, and this bottling will appeal to any fan of well-made whisky. Light and bright aromas of marmalade, nougat and pure golden malt flow exuberantly from the glass. Each time I lift it to my nose, I get more nuance. Now honey, peaches and nectarine, sultana and nutmeg. The palate delivers on the same notes, now with buttercream and puff pastry. Tasting it also brings a more complex spice profile into the mix, with a lingering cinnamon heat to compliment the baked apple and vanilla flavors that begin to arise. The finish snaps into focus with ginger and savory wood rounding out the sweeter profile from the start. Truly an immaculate product, achieving striking balance between finesse and concentration of flavor, and the value on offer at this price is downright absurd. Since it's not the dense, opulent style that seems to be in vogue, I think many will make the mistake of overlooking something this vibrant and fresh. Don't fall into that trap; claim your piece of this exceptional cask before it disappears.

We've had so many version of Glengoyne as IBs over the years. We've had naked ones where it's only malt. We had that weird PX one that might have been the most controversial cask we've ever purchase -in the same day customers would come in declaring it their favorite of all time, moments after I'd be torn a new one by another because they couldn't finish their first glass. But I think this Glengoyne might be the least difficult to love yet. While it's listed as refill hogshead, the cask influence here is significant. Maybe there was once some sherry in this wood or maybe it was the malt that they held before, but it's got a pungency and complexity that very few IB Glengoyne can boast. Here it is! Color is old gold. A gorgeous nose of ripe apricots, roasted walnuts, Canelitas, sweet wood and eucalyptus. A big honey note on the palate with gorgeous cinnamon spice, baked pear, apple, sweet barley tea. Very creamy and rich. More Spice and ripe stone fruit on the finish. This guy absolutely crushes at full strength and doesn't need much help, but for 30 minutes in the glass - a few drops of water though tame the spice and build on the gorgeous apricot and a lovely golden raisin character. So sweet and easy, but not boring or predictable. A truly lovely casks that definitely tips its hat to the traditional sherried Glengoyne style.

Wow! This is a wonderful single barrel. Aged in a refill hogshead, the wood influence is more subtle and the spirit from the distillery shows through. The nose is a joy to smell, pretty and complex. In the mouth, there are juicy malt flavors and delicious, lively and sweet spice notes. It is complex and the flavors work well together. A touch of water makes it a little softer but there is the same flavor profile.
