Fallet-Dart "Clos du Mont" Brut Champagne (2006)

SKU #1665721

This single-walled vineyard is the top of the line from Fallet-Dart. Although not labeled as a vintage, it is 100% 2006 and composed of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir that is barrel fermented. It is aged for over 12 years on the lees before release. The word "tirage" in French, which appears on the back label, means "bottling", and this all 2006 champagne was bottled in fall of 2007 and has spent an incredible 12 plus years on the lees. WOW, the 2006 Fallet Dart has an expressive nose. Right in the front there is a luscious brioche, almond paste and orchard fruit tart titan aroma. On the taste the concentrated nose meets the texture, weighty and filling on all edges in the mouth. There is a slightly sweet flavor of apricot and almond scones, but the acidity is right behind with remarkable and endless. The beads are small and graceful. This is pleasurable champagne to enjoy with savory dishes.

The first whiff of this elicited a veritable collective "Wow!" from the staff. The nose is incredibly bright and full of profuse lemon meringue, stone fruits, chalky minerals, toasty lees, honeysuckle and almonds. It's rich and sumptuous on the palate, with a razor sharp acid line and super fine bead from the extended aging time. This is up there with the great luxury prestige cuvees in terms of quality but not in terms of price. Get yours while it lasts.

An absolute stunner, the 2006 Clos du Mont from Fallet-Dart has all the deep, toasty brioche that a person could ask for. This barrel-fermented beauty spends an astounding 12 years on the lees, yielding a champagne with a complex, alluring nose full of toasted almonds, candied lemon peel, and brioche. On the palate, I love its extraordinarily velvety texture coupled with flavors of ripe citrus. The finish, rich with toast, is nearly endless. Champagne this good will have you searching for any reason to celebrate!

Profound, majestic single vineyard champagne! This wine blew my mind with extraordinary brioche and white flower notes on the nose, subtle elegance in the mouth and a nearly all night finish. I am convinced that this is not only one of the best bottles at K&L, but also an incredible piece of affordable luxury at the price. One of my top releases of the year!
