2014 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Revelation" Extra Brut Champagne

SKU #1630234

This Champagne comes from a very special plot in Monthelon, just behind the Le Brun house on a southeast facing slope. It is entirely Meunier, half of which was planted in 1952 and the other half in 1902; the oldest living vines that I have seen in Champagne. The village of Monthelon is in the Côteaux de Sud Épernay, one of the coldest microclimates in Champagne, and that cold climate, in tandem with these ancient vines, has given us a truly epic wine. Alex’s craft has added to this — he uses a combination of small oak and large foudres for this wine along with a very long, slow fermentation like at Billecart-Salmon. The very cool and even 2014 vintage has also contributed, giving this wine extra electricity, and I think making it even better than the spectacular 2012. -Gary Westby, K&L

The 2014 Alexandre Le Brun Cuvee Revelation has a very fresh nose, with crisp pear undertones. On the palate, flavors of Meyer lemon and Bartlett pear intertwine with a lightly saline minerality. This champagne has wonderful power and drive, and a mysterious and lingering finish. A delicious champagne with so much complexity to explore!

Pear nose with baking spices, muted earth, and yellow apple scents. Significantly more saline and citrus scents than the previous 2012 release. On the palate, very clean and crisp, with poached pear, green and gold apples, finishing with savory spice and lemon zest, as well as chalk. The bead is very, very, fine and delicate. Alex has done it, again! I suspect that this bottling will also age extremely well in the cellar.

This is an exceptional Champagne, perfect for wine fans who are looking to level up. 100% Meunier may not be on everyone's list, but Cuvée Révélation is a unique experience not to be missed. This opens with beautiful floral notes and spicy ginger, with some stone fruit and toastiness on the palate. It is layered and nuanced, finishing with a snap. There's lively acid and enough body to pair this vivid 2014 release with food, but it would be just as easy to drink as a more-interesting-than-usual aperitif. Alexandre Le Brun is one of our smallest Direct Import Champagne producers, and the attention to detail and quality here is unbelievable. Cuvée Révélation is a sophisticated grower option that never lasts long in stores—enjoy it while you can!

This absolutely smashing Champagne from Alexandre Le Brun is 100% barrel fermented Meunier. It's rich and layered, and keeps giving. There's a slight breadiness and soft lemon to it, but what really jazzes me is the intense nuttiness, with hazelnut and toasted almond coming through most distinctly. Given how decadent the nose is, it is a pleasant surprise how much fun acidity meets the palate even upon first sip. As it develops, both fresh and baked pear come around, a good level of baking spice, and friendly lemon notes.

Beautifully golden in color, with intense aromas of toast, hazelnut, and fresh bread leaping from the glass. Initial appearances may tell a story of richness and autolytic flavor dominance, but at first sip the 2014 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvee Revelation" bursts with wonderful minerality, citrus fruit, and lively, zippy acidity to perfectly balance its more confectionary side. Precisely balanced and engagingly intense, this is a Champagne to stock up on and pop at every opportunity.

Beautiful Champagne showing notes of almond and toasted hazelnut with brisk mineral acidity and deep rich mid palate that has weight but finishes fresh and bright. It's delicious from start to finish!

When we drank a bottle of this wine for our aperitif with figs stuffed with onion jam and cheese, I thought to myself, "this is the best current release Champagne I have had this year!" The golden color belies the extraordinary freshness on the nose and on the palate. The bouquet was generous, with fresh baguette and subtle peach aromas. In the mouth the wine was as elegant as any in our stock, the opposite of the reputation that Meunier has been unfairly given by many of the big houses. Certainly the wine has concentration and power, with layers of toast, green pear and subtle vanilla, but everything is in such perfect balance that I struggle to describe it. The finish is as long and kaleidoscopic as anything I have ever had. Don’t miss this one. There is not a lot to go around!

Alexander Le Brun’s “Cuvee Revelation” Champagne is full of succulence and complexity. The tastes in this vintage have superseded the previous vintages in showcasing a wider range of numerous varieties of pear and apple. The bright zippy acidity combined with mini wisps of spiced ginger, flinty smokiness is situated so perfectly and refined. Overwhelmingly the nose matches up with the mouthfeel and finish in harmony. The true “revelation” here is the price, for such great quality this delivers in abundance.

Monsieur Alexandre Le Brun has enchanted us down a somber, tree covered lane bursting with red and yellow leaves, gentle spice in the air. In the distance there are pear trees groaning under the weight of the impending harvest, yellow skins shiny in the early morning. The earth exhales a heady aroma that beckons us along this lane until we reach the door of a dark cellar, salty, poignant with yeasty, bready aromas pouring out from the slit underneath. We clamber into the cellar and there is a glass of 2014 Cuvee Revelation poured mysteriously for us. One sip and we awaken, not in a cellar after all but transported nonetheless by this glorious champagne.

This is a fantastic dry, crisp, and acidic Champagne. The palate shines with notes of green apple, yellow pear, tangerine peel, yellow flowers, and a subtle touch of caraway in the finish. The Cuvee Revelation showed pleasant levels of minerality and salinity while having a pronounced brioche flavor. Definitely a Champagne that you can drink now or cellar.
