This has to go down as one of the best Kalindas ever. And that's not something I say lightly...there have been some pretty epic wines bottled under our house brand over the years. Historical sources have included: Kosta Browne, Pahlmeyer, Turnbull, Silver Oak, Au Bon Climat, Lewis, Cakebread...the list goes is long. On most editions we're sworn to secrecy as is the case here. However, I can say that we have an ongoing agreement with one of the finest and most highly respected wineries on the Sonoma Coast / Anderson Valley that each year they will blend a wine for us from their own juice. This isn't a bulk wine situation...this is prime fruit from some of the very best and most notable organic and biodynamically farmed vineyards in the region. The wine is made in the same exacting methods as their own label in their own cellar. It's simply a composition of some declassified barrels that were surplus to requirement for their own MUCH more expensive wines. Each year we have the chance to sample different potential blends as barrel / tank samples and agree on the finished wine to be bottled under Kalinda. The 2019 Anderson Valley is stunning. A bright, semi-translucent color in the glass hints at the fresh, energetic style with rose petal aromatics, piquant forest berries, leaf litter, woodsy spices, bramble, and clove. Elegant on the palate with wonderful purity and silky texture. The focused acidity keeps flavors resonating on the palate and gives a very food friendly, salivating, umami filled finish. For a bright, elegant wine there's certainly no lack of layers and depth. This really speaks to Anderson Valley's ability to capture the dual personality of Pinot Noir - vibrant, high-toned, juicy fruit, but also savory, earthy, forest floor type complexity. It's a wonderful bottle that shares so much of the character of it's famous producer's wines. The staff here have fallen for this one big time...don't miss it!!!
