K&L Notes

Copain's "Les Voisins" meaning "neighbors" in French is a high-end cuvée of sites in what people call "the deep end" of Anderson Valley. This is the northwestern part of the valley where the ocean's influence is at it's most powerful and most folks believe this is where the finest Pinot Noir in the region is grown. Coming mostly from Abel Vineyard, an east facing, hillside parcel, planted to Clone 115. The next largest portion comes from the famed Maggy Hawk Vineyard, the crown jewel holding of the estate, then a small portion of fruit from the high, 2000ft elevation, Sky Crest Vineyard completes the blend. Only 10% new French oak is used along with 15% whole cluster fermentation.

This Pinot Noir from Copain is absolutely delicious! Five years on from harvest it's just hitting the prime drinking window and is hands-down one of my favorite wines in the store right now. I mean this is pure, silky, lush Pinot Noir at its finest. Coming from some of the very best vineyards in Anderson Valley; this wine is an absolute benchmark for the region. It has that a magical combination of suave, elegant yet concentrated fruit, complex floral tones and fragrant lift are contrasted by sultry earthy, sous bois, brambly tones, garrigue and truffle. I mean this is everything I look for in a Pinot Noir as far as flavor profile, and the silken texture on the palate is just irresistible. We scooped this up winery-direct and have a ROCKING price on it. Almost 40% off a 95-point Pinot Noir from a top producer...you don't see this everyday! This will fly out of here, I'm already calling this as one of the best selling wines of the year at K&L.

For more than two decades Copain has been turning out head-turning, critic-raving, wine-geek loving wines. Their focus is Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay and thier intense focus has kept them on the radar for astute wine buyers. The 2017 "Les Voisins" Pinot Noir embodies everything this winery stands for. It's distinctive, it's ethereal, and it's delicious. This will be your new favorite Pinot Noir...while supplies last. A few winters spent in the wineries cellar has it entering its perfect drinking window. There's plenty of dark fruit, black cherry, a hint of forest floor, and a dusting of exotic spice. It's complex, it's sleek, and it's elegant. While it will be perfect with a whole roast chicken, I paired it with a Brebirousse d'Argental; a creamy sheeps milk cheese from Lyon.
