Wine Enthusiast
The spectacular hillside vineyard of Montus, overlooking the Adour Valley, is producing some of the finest Madiran. This 80% Tannat wine reveals the quality and intensity of the grape. It is still full of tannins, but the fruit really shines. Give this wine time and drink from 2023. *Cellar Selection* (RV)

K&L Notes
Château Montus is the crown jewel in Alain Brumont's holdings. Purchased in 1980, it was Brumont's ideal property. Steep hillsides plus the gravelly vineyards with yellow and red clay subsoils made for one of the best terroirs in the region. The Montus is a blend of primarily Tannat with some Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes ferment in large wooden vats and the wine ages in a mix of used and about 60-80% new French oak depending on the vintage. The results are a seamless and inviting Madiran that defines the regional style. The perfect wine for the rich sausage and duck dishes famously made in the region.
