The 2019 Chardonnay Cuvée Anne comes from several vineyards, including X Novo, Justice and Seven Springs, and matured in about 45% new wood. It has alluring scents of preserved lemon, saline and graphite, with perfumed white orchard fruits. The palate is linear and pure, with a satiny texture and gentle nutty character at this early stage. Its elevated length and purity suggest this has much more to offer with additional time in bottle. Decanter
Cuvee Anne now uses only Eola-Amity Hills fruit from a variety of vineyards. Pahlow aggressively thinned shoot to reduce yield and picked early. The wine is aged for a year in barrel followed by an additional 4 - 5 months in tank. The result is lemony and very fine, with a reductive, smoky element, a pronounced saline edge, and yet enough passionfruit and floral aroma to fill the wine out nicely. The wine is laser-focused, but not lacking depth, and it should age exceptionally well. (CC)

Wine & Spirits
Ken Pahlow typically blends this wine from sources throughout the Willamette Valley; in 2019, he limited the fruit to the Eola Hills. It’s classic Walter Scott chardonnay in most ways—smoky, flinty, redolent of nutty lees and matchstick sharpness. The palate is lean and lovely, the golden apple in the attack starts off rich only to gain tartness in the middle, so that the finish feels cinched, like a waistline stitch. Impressive. (PJC)
