Another big, rich, powerful Zin from Jeff Gaffner at Saxon Brown - this time coming from a block of vines planted in extremely rocky soils on the edge of the Sonoma Coast AVA. In fact, back in the mid-1800s, huge boulders from this area were used to make miles of old stone walls that crisscross the landscape. The flavors here are just as explosive and bold as the Fighting Brothers bottling with a little added sweet Christmas spice and strawberry coulis. Saturated, rich and powerful on the palate, with layer upon layer of ripe red and black fruits. The tannins are silky and fine and a nice little juicy acidity from the ocean influenced climate gives a lift and freshness to the finish after the tidal wave of generous fruit. Wow, this is big, mouth filling, impressive old school Zin.
