SKU #1570857 95 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark An impressively poised and detailed pinot that offers such expressive red cherry and blueberry. Really pure and vibrant aromas and flavors. The tannins are crisply cut and deliver an uplifting feel to the palate with intense and lively style. *Top 100 New Zealand Wines of 2021* Inner quote mark (11/2020)

Outer quote mark This is classic Otago Pinot at a fantastic price, but it takes its time to unravel. Pop this into a decanter and once open, it shows balance and expression, with brambly blueberry and red berry fruit, layers of baking spice, violets, and a damp earth, autumnal note. The palate is fresh with pronounced acidity. Some charred, mealy oak influence is a touch distracting but overall the fruit is bright and the tannins taut and chiseled while making room for the secondary spice and earth characters. *Editor's Choice* (CP) Inner quote mark (11/2021)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Made using a significant whole-cluster component (more than 25%), Mount Edward's 2018 Pinot Noir boasts some notable herbal, floral and tea-like aromatics layered over cranberry and cherry fruit. Medium-bodied, silky-textured yet marked by relatively taut acidity, it's more streamlined than expansive, with room to grow and expand a bit in the coming years. The tannins impart a touch of astringency to the lingering finish, so pair it with rare beef or lamb if serving it now, or just cellar it for a couple of years. Inner quote mark (6/2021)

As some of you will know, in a previous life, I was the NZ wine buyer for K&L and I'm very proud of the direct import program we put together. The Mount Edward wines were and continue to be one of the crown jewels of the program and I consider Duncan and Anna's wines as some of the finest in all of Central Otago. I'm delighted that Thomas Smith our current NZ buyer has continued to bring in as much of these wines as we can get our hands on! They represent some of the finest values in Pinot Noir from anywhere on the planet. Tasting the 2018 Mount Edward yesterday I was immediately transported back to standing in the mountainous vineyards of Central Otago. The wild thyme notes that underscore the delicious, ripe berry fruits, Asian spice, rose petal, and new leather. Much of this fruit is grown on schist soils which gives the wine such lift and vibrancy. The tannins are wonderfully fine and silky. The balance is immaculate. All in all this is truly a world-class bottle of Pinot Noir at an absurdly affordable price.

What a delicious bottle of pinot noir that is all too easy to drink. This is medium bodied with soft tannins and the classic Central Otago minerality running through its core, all enveloped in spicy sour cherries and bright acidity. For $30 this is one of the best deals in pinot in the store.

Lovely dark red fruit, light tobacco, and black pepper powder come off the nose with lovely power. More florality, dried fruits, and clove & cardamom arrive with time. Expressions of cherry and pepper play on the tongue of this wine with great texture and character. At this price point, this bottle will definitely be a repeat buy for me.

Rich berry fruits, lanolin, earth, baking spice and tea leaves emanate from the glass. The texture is generous and pure silk, with lovely vibrancy from the subtle underlying acidity. The finish is focused, balanced and lasts for over half a minute. This is world class Pinot Noir at a great price. Don't miss it.

This spicy, dark fruited Pinot Noir is an incredible value for money, one of the best that we have on offer, from anywhere in the world. It has enough fruit to drink on its own, but a lovely line of fresh acidity to pair with a wide variety of cuisine. We have been waiting a long time for this great Pinot to arrive- grab it now!

Mount Edward’s Pinot Noirs continue to get better and better with every vintage, but in the past few years, it’s ratcheted up to a whole new level. Coming right off the bat of the exceptional 2017 Vintage, Mount Edward is the only Central Otago producer I’ve come across whose 2018 is even better. With a nose of wild strawberry, piercing cranberry, boysenberry, beautiful floral notes left my head spinning. Further, the palate is intense, red fruited, and softly textured with fine tannin that only supports, with zero bitterness and fine-grained structure. This is on lock and step with the region’s absolute top producers. I’m honestly shocked that after three stunning vintages in a row, Mount Edward isn’t regarded in the same breath as Felton Road or Rippon. It's every bit as good, and half the price. If they keep up this run of quality, there’s no doubt that they’ll be there soon.

Central Otago is one of my favorite regions in the world for Pinot Noir. The wines from Mt Edwards are one of the reasons for that. They have an aromatic complexity to them that I love. They are generous and open but also have a delicate cool focus. Fruit, spice, earth, and herbs all play for your attention with the fruit just winning out. I love the nose but it is on the palate that these wines really shine. The wine has sneaky concentration, the way that the best Pinot from around the world do. It is medium light bodied and round. It has very, very fine tannins and fresh acidity which focuses the wine but does not call attention to itself. Then it builds and builds and builds. The cool dark cherry fruit seems to take on more intensity and weight after the wine has left your palate. Delicate earth and very fine, almost powdered herbal accent plays against the fruit giving it even more dimension. This is a wonderful representation of what the region has to offer. And a great Pinot Noir.
