Always the most elegant of the single vineyard releases, the 2006 Gigondas Le Poste is almost all Grenache and comes from a steep, terraced vineyard located just beside the estate. Reminding me of a beautifully mature red Burgundy with its sweet cherry and currants fruits, spice-box, forest floor, camphor and dried flowers, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, silky tannin, a great mid-palate and no shortage of length on the finish. Pure class all the way, enjoy this beauty anytime over the coming decade. (JD)

Wine Spectator
Captivating aromas of incense, macerated blueberry and boysenberry fruit and Lapsang souchong tea are followed by a rich yet racy palate of dark fruit, licorice, roasted sage and mineral notes. The long finish has latent grip and great spine. This is a terrific young wine that should blossom in the cellar. Best from 2009 through 2016.

Vinous
(from a yield of only 15 hectoliters per hectare, according to Barruol) Bright ruby. Impressively energetic aromas of dark berry preserves, smoked meat and minerals, complicated by anise and cracked pepper. Brighter red fruits join the dark berries on the palate, which is strikingly expressive and gently sweet. The minerals linger on the tangy, focused, very long finish. This deserves patience. (JR)
