This is an impressive bottle of wine. At first whiff you know exactly that this is pedigreed Napa Valley Cabernet. There's plenty of fruit on the nose which carries onto the palate. The wine is totally satisfying in every aspect. A mouthful of opulent fruit is framed nicely by ripe but firm tannins giving you that telltale Cabernet Sauvignon experience. This is one very satisfying bottle of wine made even better by an extra nice price.

This is a stunning value in powerful, fruit forward Napa Cabernet. The Distinction Series Cab from Beringer pulls all their winemaking expertise and unrivalled fruit sourcing together and delivers a seriously good, luxurious Napa Cab without costing you a small fortune. After tasting this wine, we took a sizable position on it and managed to further reduce the price, making this one of the sharpest deals of the holiday season. The wine is absolutely jam packed with ripe, lush, dark fruit, blackberry, cassis, mulberry, chocolate ganache, loamy earth and subtle cigar box. Smooth, rounded tannins mean this is good to pop n' pour with or without food. It has all the power and bold flavors that people seek in top cult Cabs but at a seriously affordable price point. This is gonna make a lot of friends as long as it lasts, quantity is limited to this one parcel so don't snooze on this one.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends

- Cabernet Sauvignon has come a long way from its role as a blending varietal, however dominant, in the wines of Bordeaux. Today it is the most planted red varietal in the world. Identified as a descendent of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be planted in warmer climates to fully ripen. Its small berries can easily be identified for their distinctive blue color, thick skins and high tannins. And while the varietal has its own definitive characteristics: green pepper-like aromas and black currant flavors among them, it is perhaps most prized for its ability to convey terroir, vintage and winemaking. A relatively new varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon started making inroads into the wines of the Médoc and Graves in the late-18th century. Today it is also dominant in the up-and-coming Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux and can also be found in Southwest France. It is the companion varietal to Sangiovese in Italy's Super Tuscans and is planted all over Europe, stretching to lesser-known winegrowing regions like Russia and Lebanon. In the Americas Cabernet Sauvignon has found champions in every nook and cranny of California and among winemakers in Washington, where it complements plantings of Merlot. In South America, Cab thrives in Chile, but can also be found in smaller amounts in Argentina and even in Mexico.
