2019 My Favorite Neighbor (Booker) "Harvey & Harriet" Paso Robles Red Blend

SKU #1556148 94 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark As to the reds, the 2019 Harvey and Harriet can be thought of as the more approachable, lush red in the lineup, and it always seems more black fruit-driven than the straight Cabernet Sauvignon. Blackberries, sweet tobacco, cedar, and some floral violet nuances define the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a beautiful texture and silky tannins. It’s a smoking value, and while it has plenty of up-front charm, it certainly has a decade or more of overall longevity. As I’ve written numerous times in the past, all of these would run two to three times the cost if they were from Napa Valley. Inner quote mark (9/2021)

Outer quote mark Deep ruby-purple, the 2019 Harvey & Harriet has beguiling crushed red and black cherries, tar, coffee beans and dark spicy and savory accents on the nose. Full-bodied but light on its feet and easy to drink, it offers a fine balance of powerful fruit intensity and seamless freshness, a style that will appeal to a wide range of red-wine drinkers, from lovers of Zinfandel to fans of Cabernet. K&L Notes

Winery notes: Eric Jensen of Booker Vineyard and My Favorite Neighbor created this wine in honor of his parents. In a world of pricey Cabernet blends, Eric’s hardworking, honest, salt-of-the-earth parents would have never been able to drink a decent wine. This is meant to be your every-day drinker. This Bordeaux style blend sources from the best vineyard sites, uses the best barrels, and the best team in winemaking.

The fact you can even buy a wine with this pedigree and quality in the bottle for under $29.95 leaves me shocked. And yet here it is. Harvey & Harriet from winemaking super star Eric Jensen of Booker, is an homage to his parents and specifically designed to be a wine that over delivers for price. That's right, in contrast to so many top winemakers, who seek to push their wines up to stratospheric price points, Jensen very deliberately launched the Harvey & Harriet brand to bring top quality wine to customers at a significantly lower price point than his other projects. He's very proud to bring a wine to folks they can drink on a regular basis without breaking the bank. And WOW...doesn't it ever succeed in it's mission. A rich, ripe, exotic Paso Robles Cabernet blend with blackberry, cassis, boysenberry, baking spices, creamy chocolate tones, a mouth-filling, soft, lush texture and ripe smooth tannins. A fantastically easy-drinking, fruit-forward with wine with amazing purity of fruit and textural polish. Drink up!

This brigth, bold red offers a ton of flavor and character at a more moderate price tag than its peers. Booker vineyards has been a qualitative driver of Paso Robles for better than a decade and has become a blue chip producer. The wine is a mouthful with plenty of lush, intense fruit.
