2018 Coster dels Olivers Priorat

SKU #1554109 92 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Based largely on Carignan, with 30% Garnacha and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Priorat has a big, smoky nose of mulled red and black fruits, graphite, flowers, and new leather. This carries to a medium to full-bodied wine with terrific tannins (especially for Carignan), a balanced, elegant texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. Inner quote mark (3/2021)

K&L Notes

This is the newest Priorat offering from Eric Solomon. Eric who has long and deep connections to the region, he has been importing wine from the region since the early '90's and is married to the Proprietor/winemaker of Clos Erasmus. He conceived the great "Black Slate" project which has introduced so many of us to the bold wines of the region. Coster dels Olivers is his way of introducing us to a newer style of Priorat. The style that many of the producers are slowly moving towards, wines with more freshness and less oak. Wines to accompany rather than wines that are the star. This is rich, has body, texture and good intensity but the fruit has a little more brightness, there is a touch more floral to balance that classic Priorat spice and earth.
